Guess it is because I have a son that I mostly buy little boy toys. Not one single doll so far! Also because I think it´s a bit scary with old furry animals and dolls, who knows what´s inside the hair and the fur…
But anyhow, these old american indians and soldiers where hiding inside an ugly plastic box and I just had to rescue them. Most of them can´t be worth anything cause they are so broken. Many of them are very fragile and just fall apart due to aging material. But I like the look and feel of them, and their expression (even thou I do not like the real historical events behind these toys).
To me they look alive, like portraits of real people. And at the same time they are such stereotypes and klichés. But it is obvious that some really good craftsmen has made (most of) them and that there has been a boy many decades ago that loved to play with them. I find that very moving.
Under the figures it says “Leyla, Made in Germany”, “Elastolin, Germany”, “Lineol, Germany”, “Herald,Made in England”, “Plastinol, Germany” and “Swoppet, Produced by Britains Ltd”. One of each in a strange mix, plus some nerver without any tag.
